SHANE Warne and Liz Hurley have taken to the Twitter to confirm their engagement.

After a whirlwind 10 months of dating, the cricket legend and "mum, model, actress, bikini designer, organic farmer" as she calls herself on Twitter, posted: "Thanks for all your congratulations. Here's a pic of us about to go to Dunhill dinner in St Andrews."

On Saturday, Liz showed off a large sapphire and diamond ring while watching Shane compete during the third round of The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at the Kingsbarns Golf Links in Kingsbarns, Scotland.

The UK press went into a swirl with reports the spin king had popped the question at the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews on Thursday night. However, a close friend of Shane says the engagement actually took place weeks ago.

The couple did not hide their affection on the golf course at St Andrews, where Shane competed in a celebrity pro-am. They met at Britain's Goodward races in July 2010 before publicly flirting on Twitter, and were first reported to be an item after they were photographed kissing in London in December last year.

Shane was back in the UK early last week after spending time in New York City with Liz, where she is filming the TV series Gossip Girl. They are set to visit Melbourne later in the month.
