In an interview on Radio 5 Live yesterday, Red Ed attacked the idea that the way you can succeed at being famous for being famous is about just making an appearance on Big Brother.

Its an idea that is increasingly bizarre given that Big Brother is now on Channel Five and largely unwatched. In its pomp, all housemates needed to do to be famous was lie, like Nasty Nick, be racially abused, like Shilpa Shetty, or get their boobs out and be lovably uneducated, like Jade Goody. Now you need to juggle, sing or get your boobs and bum out, like Louise Cliffe.

The one great thing about Milibands words on the telly is his grasp of maths:

Thats the problem about celebrity culture, its a one-in-a-million chance. For those who get the chance, great. You have to show the 999,000 others that theres another way.
