Impala owner Chris Lopez couldn't really explain the car's celebrity except that it's a traditional, trusted ride. "It's just Chevy. Chevy Impala," the Albuquerque man said with a shrug. "I don't know. When you think low-rider, you picture Dr. Dre in a '64 Chevy Impala." "It's iconic," said fellow New Mexico Car Club member Geo Hernandez. "Impala is the face of low-riders." Kyle Johnson was one of the spectators that stopped to admire a row of Impalas parked in the Events Center. "That's some fine craftsmanship," he said.
The car show also featured bikini-clad models, sound competition and performances by rap veterans such as Spice 1 and Rappin 4 Tay.
There were plenty of tricked-out, hopped-up Impalas on display Sunday at the Lowrider Experience Tour at the Colorado State Fairgrounds Oldsmobile Cutlass, Chevrolet El Camino, classic cars and trucks -- low-riders came in every model, make and generation. But the Impala is the most recognizable. It's the low-rider king, the car of choice.

A man passed by the cars and put his sunglasses on because "the shine off these cars can give you a sunburn," he said.
