The Do's and Don'ts of Musikfest fashion - LehighValleyLive.com

To guarantee fashion forward comfort during the blistering heat of Musikfest, follow these simple, yet chic guidelines.

Don't wear a fanny pack - No matter how handy (or even ironic) you think it would be to wear one, just don't. They are bulky, not quirky.

Do wear a draw string back pack or a cross body bag - With all the functionality of a fanny pack you'll feel safe about your personal belongings comfortably and stylishly attached to your body, and you'll be free to move about as you please.

Don't wear super tight clothing - It's understandable that you want to look attractive and maybe catch the eye of another festival-goer, but tight clothing will make you sweat. And sweat stains are not attractive.

Do wear loose baggy items - Big is in this year. Find a top that flows or maybe an over sized tee that dips off one shoulder. Pair it with a nice pair of cuffed shorts, and you'll look amazing in comparison to your sausaged counterparts.

Don't forget sun block (and reapplications) - Sun safety isn't just so you keep your skin looking nice and fresh, it's also important for your health. You may want to use this opportunity to tan, but the American Academy of Dermatology recommends wearing a minimum of SPF 30 daily, which is especially important if you're going to be outside for extended hours.

Do wear big sunglasses - Properly shading your eyes is very important, and no matter what anyone says if you feel like a celebrity in your big sunglasses then just work it. Confidence is the key to any great outfit, and it can be shown through your shades or fun accessories. Grab some chunky rings and a multi-chain necklace to make any outfit extra fierce.

Don't wear flip flops - As comfortable as they are, you have to keep in mind that you're walking around in a "party zone" which means potentially stepping in broken glass, puddles of mud and discarded garbage. Gross.

Do wear sturdy sandals or sneakers - There are certain shoes that are just made for an intense day. Personally I adore my Birkenstocks (it hardly feels like I'm wearing shoes), but if you desire full enclosure then sneakers are the way to go.

Don't wear a romper - Trust me on this one. Sometimes trying to get out of one is a little difficult especially if you're making a much needed trip to the Porta-potty.

Pair it with bangles and boots for a comfortable, yet feminine look. The dress is available for $85 at Loose Thread Boutique in Bethlehem.

Do wear a dress or a skirt - In the thick summer heat a sun dress or skirt is the best way to enjoy a slight breeze.

Don't wear your bikini - You may think of a day in the sun as a great opportunity to show off your great tan, but you don't want to have a wardrobe malfunction; save this look for the beach.

Do wear a cropped top - If you are dying to flash some skin then catch this craze while you still can because soon crop tops will again be uncouth.

Do have fun with what you wear - Wear neon colors to pop out in the crowd, wear floral prints to embrace an earthy vibe or get inspired by the classic feel of the festival and wear a band tee with a denim vest. Whatever style you pick, just have fun with it, and remember that comfort may be the key to enjoying a hot day in the sun.
