Minka Kelly Leads New, Edgier Charles Angels (New Trailer!) - TheImproper.com

Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor and Annie Ilonzeh show how they will fill some pretty big shoes in the latest reboot of Charlies Angels for television. Will it be more jiggle TV or will it empower women as producers claim? You be the judge.

Drew Barrymore, who starred in 2000 and 2003 in two Charlies Angels movies, with Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz, is producing the new series along with Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.

We want to empower the women, not exploit them, Gough said in a recent interview. At a certain point you will see the women in bikinis, but it didnt feel right in the pilot,

Hmmm the original hit series, which ran from 1976 to 1981 on ABC, made stars of Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith, largely playing of their sex appeal and ample cleavage shots.

In fact, the ABC series gave rise to the term jiggle TV.

But in another departure, the latest series will reportedly have a darker tone, and the Angels will each have history to deal with.

In addition, the show will feature the first African-American angel.

But one thing the original series, the movies and the reboot will have in common is plenty of action, plus these girls will have edge.

Kelly plays Eve, a former car thief. Kate (Ilonzeh) was a corrupt cop before she was recruited and Abby (Taylor) is a Park Avenue princess turned jewel thief.

These girls are probably more real in terms of women today, said Leonard Goldberg, who produced the original Angels with Aaron Spelling and is also working on the new version

All three have flaws, all have gotten in trouble in the past, and Charlies given them a second chance.

What no sex tapes? Check out the trailer below.
