'We got a massive round of applause': Angela Griffin on filming a wheelie bin sex scene in Manchester city centre
When 30 people are watching you apparently enjoying a quickie in one of the least hygienic places imaginable, it's important to put on a brave face, and a good show.
It seems Angela Griffin managed both while she was filming this particularly raunchy scene for upcoming Sky1 series Mount Pleasant.
The actress, 35, admitted she and co-star Adrian Bower got a round of applause from onlookers as they filmed the scene on a busy night in Manchester city centre.
All in the line of duty: Convincing as this looks, actress Angela Griffin was filming a scene for upcoming comedy drama Mount Pleasant
Griffin's character, an office worker named Shelly, indulges in this unorthodox liaisonin an attempt to spice things up with her husband, a Manchester bin man named Greg (played by Bower).
However it seems that the actress's confidence doesn't quite match that of her on-screen persona.
Opening up to The Sun, Griffin said: 'You have got to lose your inhibitions in this job.'
Luckily, a lighthearted atmosphere on set helped things along: 'It was 11pm and we were filming on a really busy street in Manchester with lots of bars and restaurants. We soon had a massive audience - and got a round of applause after the first take.'
Raunchy: It's no wonder Angela and co star Adrian often collapsed into giggles
She and her co star understandably had a little trouble maintaining their professional composure, bursting into laughter as they struggled with the logistically tricky scene.
Angela revealed her tricks for getting into a sexy mindset while she's playing Shelly: 'Shelley's so sexually confident. She wears stockings, suspenders and high heels every day.'
'As soon as I put the underwear on, I instantly turn into Shelley. It's suspenders, pull-in knickers, push-up bras, the works. You have to hold yourself differently. I wear it even though you never see it - it's just part of the character,' she explained.
The saucy stockings and suspenders were in full view on this occasion.
Dismount: It must have been tricky hopping off the bin in those heels
Although the scene was all in the line of duty, Angela admitted that her mother wasn't impressed when pictures of the filming initially appeared in the papers (unfortunately, on Mother's Day).
The actress tweeted: 'After looking in today's paper, my mother is particularly proud... Not!'
Mount Pleasant is written by Sarah Hooper, who has previously worked on episodes of Shameless.
The eight-part comedy dramahas been described by insiders as 'Cold Feet meets This Life meets Desperate Housewives'. The series starts on August 24 at 9pm.
Respectable: Angela, pictured with husband Jason Milligan at the Smurfs 3D premiere last week, is much more reserved than her Character Shelly
